The FCI is a worldwide canine organization with 78 members and partners, one from each country. The FCI is not a registry. Each country's member organization is responsible for their country's registry activities and judge's training. The FCI insures that the pedigrees and judges are mutually recognized by all the FCI members. In addition, via the national canine organization and the FCI, breeder's may request international protection of their kennel name.

The FCI recognizes 331 breeds. The breed standards for each breed are written, in co-operation with the Standards and Scientific Commissions of the FCI, by their respective "owner" countries (m/o country of origin).

Each member country conducts international shows and working trials. The results are sent to the FCI office where they are tabulated. When a dog has been awarded a certain number of awards, it can receive the title of International Beauty or Working Champion. The titles confirmed by the FCI include:
CACIB - Certificat d'Aptitude au Championnat International de Beauté (Conformation)
CACIT - Certificat d'Aptitude au Championnat International de Travail (Working)
CACIL - Certificat d'Aptitude au Championnat International des Courses de Lévriers (Racing)
CACIOB - Certificat d'Aptitude au Championnat International d'Obéissance (Obedience)
CACIAG - Certificat d'Aptitude au Championnat International d'Agility (Agility)

The FCI also publishes a magazine, three times yearly, in four languages (French, English, German and Spanish). Information about the publication is available from STRATEGO, Muhlenweg 4, 7221 Marz, Austria.

*Title Fees: UCI currently charges a processing fee Of $40.00adult/$25.00puppy. .

*NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP -A National Championship title is achieved after receiving three (V-2) "CAC" certificates.

*INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP- An International UCI Championship title is achieved after receiving three "Certificat d'Aptitude au Championat International de Beaute "Certificates of Beauty" from UCI. These certificates must be awarded by three different judges, with at least two of the judges residing in different countries. (for example: 2 Americans & 1 Canadian. or 1 German)

*CHAMPIONKLASSE- Having received a National or International Championship a dog will be entered into this class in order to finish receiving the necessary "CAC" or "CACIB's" to have both championships, thereby, qualifying it for entry into the next higher class (Ehren Class).

After receiving both National and International Adult Championships a dog may move up and compete for additional(higher) championship titles. Also, note that the necessary certificates for a particular championship must be filed with IABCA,Inc. before entering the next highest class.(SeeList of Klassen/classes)

An International championship certificate As awarded by the IABCA and UCI

The title requirements listed are set forth and awarded by the Union Cynologie International e. V. (UCI) headquartered in Germany. The International All Breed Canine Association of America, Inc. (IABCA) has been granted dispensation by UCI to sanction shows in the United States and Canada and to award UCI certificates and titles. These shows are held in the same manner as CKC or AKC Championship shows except that they are in accordance with the German regulations and guidelines that have been established by UCI.
Each dog receives a written critique upon completion of the class. Each dog is first judged as to how well it conforms to the International UCI breed standard, then against the class. The International UCI standards are based on the country of origin for each breed, where possible. Group judging is held the same as a CKC or AKC show with the exception of the winners being jointly selected by two judges. Best in Show is held the same as a CKC or AKC show with the exception of the winner being jointly selected by a panel of judges.
The puppy critiques include a rating of: SG-1 (Very good; top rating), SG-2 (very good but not as good as SG-1; no certificate), G (good; no certificate), F (fair; no certificate) P (poor; no certificate), M (unsatisfactory; if this is awarded the dog is disqualified from further showing).
More than one SG-1 rating may be awarded in each class. When more than one puppy takes a SG-1 rating in a class, an a, b, c or d will be placed after the SG-1 rating. This denotes the class placement, with the SG-1a being the 1st place winner who competes for Best Puppy in Breed.
The adult critiques include a rating of: V-1 (very excellent; top rating), V-2 (excellent), V-3 (excellent but not as good as V-2), V-4 (excellent but not as good as V-3), SG (very good; no certificate), G (good; no certificate), F (fair; no certificate) P (poor; no certificate), M (unsatisfactory; if this is awarded the dog is disqualified from further showing).
More than one V-1 or V-2 rating may be awarded in each class. When more than one dog takes a V-1 rating in a class, an a, b, c or d will be placed after the V-1 rating. This denotes the class placement, with the V-1a being the 1st place winner who competes for Best of Breed.
